| Improving Literacy |
Incline Elementary School recently made it a requirement for all students Kindergarten through 5th grade to be taught Spanish, so every child comes out of the school with a basic knowledge of how to speak the language.
Efforts to improve literacy are also underway with the introduction of its reading intervention program. At the end of the first-grade students are tested to determine whether they're behind in their reading skills. When students identified as having reading difficulties enter the second grade, they are immediately assigned to a tutor, who is either a volunteer or teacher, and works either one-on-one or in small groups of students every school day for 16 weeks to bring them up to speed. |
Literacy has also been stressed at Incline middle and high schools. The schedule has been modified to add a basic reading class for students who are more challenged in their reading skills The school has also applied for a grant to hire a reading specialist.
At Incline High School, changes in both how they present and what they present in the English curriculum are underway. The Incline Village K-16 Council and the educational scholar it hired have been assisting the school's language issue. |
| Introducing New Technology |
| At Incline Middle School there's a technology center where students can learn how to program a robot, build carbon dioxide-powered cars and produce a radio show. |
Keeping pace with the modern age, one Incline High School teacher has even started doing all of his presentations on Microsoft Power Point presenting information using a computer on a large screen. |
